Knik Tribal Council offers Higher Education Scholarships to our Members and to other individuals in our service area who are enrolled with another federally recognized tribe or are eligible for enrollment with another federally recognized tribe. These scholarships are available no matter what age you are as long as you are attending an accredited college or university and are taking at least twelve (12) credit hours.

There is an application which must be filled out and the following documents must be provided for your application to be reviewed:

Completed Application

Letter of intent

Letter of acceptance from the school

Documentation of the costs associated with going to the school

Documentation of FAFSA being completed

High School or College transcripts

Scholarship applications are not reviewed until all documentation is provided. It is the applicants responsibility to provide the documentation and a complete application.

Once a Scholarship application is completed it is reviewed by the Educational Coordinator. The Educational Coordinator then makes a recommendation on the amount to be funded, or if they should be funded, and the Executive Director makes the final decision. Once the Executive Director makes a determination for funding, the application and recommendation go to the Bookkeeper. The Bookkeeper then makes sure that there is funding available and then signs off on the application.

Once all of these steps are complete a check in the amount of the approved funding is sent to the school and a letter informing the applicant of their award is sent out.

We try to be as fast as possible processing Higher Education Scholarships, however if an application is turned in at the last moment, it is not Knik Tribal Council's responsibility to rush to get the funding to the school.

Please turn in your applications well in advance of the deadline for payment.

If you have received a Knik Tribal Council Scholarship, you must reapply each semester, providing current transcripts and a complete application. Scholarship recipients must maintain a GPA higher than 2.00 to remain eligible for further funding.

If for some reason you do not maintain a 2.0 GPA, you will be put on probation for one (1) semester. This means that you must find alternate funding for that semester and bring your GPA up to at least the 2.0 minimum. If you are able to bring up your GPA, you will then be eligible for KTC Scholarship once again. Also, as you were on probation you still have priority over new applicants.
